Well, I’ll be! Folks are always askin’ me ’bout them fancy words, like this here “dessert wine crossword clue.” Don’t know much ’bout crosswords, but I reckon dessert wine is somethin’ sweet ya drink after supper. My old man, he liked a little somethin’ sweet after his cornbread and beans, though he mostly stuck to peach schnapps.
Anyways, this here “clue” thing, I guess that means they’re lookin’ for a word that fits in them little boxes. Now, I ain’t no scholar, but I heard tell of some dessert wines. There’s that “Port” wine, kinda strong and sweet, like a boiled-down plum jam. Then there’s “Madeira,” reminds me of them fancy raisins they put in fruitcake. And “Sauternes,” sounds like somethin’ a rich fella would drink, real sweet and syrupy.
Speakin’ of sweet wines, I remember my grandma used to make somethin’ called “muscadine wine.” Lord, that stuff was sweet enough to make your teeth hurt! She’d pick them wild muscadines and mash ’em up in a big ol’ barrel. Took her forever, but it was worth it. Come wintertime, she’d bring out a jug, and it’d warm ya right up. Not sure if that counts as a “dessert wine,” but it sure was sweet and went down easy after a big meal.
I also heard tell of somethin’ called “Ice Wine.” Said they leave the grapes on the vine till they freeze solid, then squeeze out the juice. Sounds like a whole lotta work for a little bit of wine, but folks say it’s mighty tasty. Sweeter than a June bug on a honeysuckle vine, I bet. Then there’s “Moscato,” that’s a fizzy one, like a fancy soda pop, but with a kick. My niece, she likes that stuff. Says it tastes like peaches and sunshine.
- Port
- Madeira
- Sauternes
- Muscadine Wine
- Ice Wine
- Moscato
Now, if you’re lookin’ for words to fit in them crossword boxes, you gotta think about how many letters they need. “Port” is a short one, only four letters. “Madeira” and “Sauternes” are longer, seven or eight letters. So, you gotta look at the spaces they give ya and figure out which one fits. It’s like puttin’ together a quilt, gotta find the right pieces to make it all work.
I reckon there’s all kinds of other sweet wines out there too. Them fancy folks are always comin’ up with somethin’ new. But these are the ones I’ve heard tell of, and they all sound like they’d go good with a slice of apple pie or a piece of pecan cake. Just remember, a little bit goes a long way. Too much sweet stuff and you’ll be wakin’ up with a headache bigger than a watermelon.
So, if you’re stuck on that “dessert wine crossword clue,” try out some of them words I mentioned. And if none of ’em fit, well, maybe you need a bigger crossword puzzle! Or just go ahead and have a glass of sweet tea. That’s my kinda dessert, and you don’t need no fancy crossword clue to enjoy it.
And one more thing, don’t go wastin’ good money on them fancy wines if you can’t afford it. A good cup of coffee and a piece of cornbread is just as good, if not better. It’s the company you keep that matters, not what’s in your glass.
Anyways, that’s all I know ’bout this here “dessert wine” stuff. Hope it helps ya with that crossword puzzle. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits.
