Alright, let’s talk about this takin’ a drink to the bathroom thing, is it kosher or not? Now, I ain’t no fancy rabbi or nothin’, but I’ve heard some things and seen some things, and I’ll tell ya what I know.
First off, some folks say the bathroom ain’t a clean place, not in a dirt way, but in a spirit way, ya know? They say bringin’ food or drinks in there, well, it ain’t right. Like the spirit dirtiness gonna stick to your food or somethin’. Makes sense, I guess. You wouldn’t eat dinner in the outhouse, would ya?
- But then, there’s other folks, smart fellas too, they say it ain’t no big deal. They say there ain’t no rule against takin’ food or drinks into the bathroom. See? Already we got two different ideas.
- And what about if your bathroom is just a little room with a toilet and a sink, but your shower is separate, with a door? Some say then it’s okay, like it’s a different space altogether. Like havin’ your supper in the kitchen and washin’ up in the basin, two different places, ya know?
Now, about that drink itself. If it’s got somethin’ weird in it, like bugs or somethin’ from an animal that ain’t kosher, well, then the drink ain’t kosher neither, bathroom or no bathroom. And if it’s been used in some other religion’s stuff, that ain’t good either. We gotta keep things clean and proper, like the good book says.
And listen here, when you’re in the bathroom, you gotta be quiet. No chitchat, no yellin’ hello to folks, nothin’. Just do your business and get out. Some say even if you’re in there with another fella, you can’t be talkin’. Just keep to yourself, ya hear?
But what if you got medicine you gotta keep in the bathroom? That’s different. You can keep your pills and such in a cabinet, that’s alright. But don’t go eatin’ or drinkin’ in there. It just ain’t right, most folks agree on that.
And washin’ your hands, that’s real important. Before you eat, after you go to the bathroom, gotta wash them hands good with soap and water. Get all them germs off, ya know? And don’t be bringin’ food or drinks in there while you’re washin’ up neither. Keep things separate.
So, say you’re out and about and gotta use the bathroom in a place that ain’t kosher, like a restaurant that serves all kinds of food. Can ya just go in and get a drink of water? Well, some say it’s okay just to get a drink or use the restroom, but if you start sittin’ down for a meal, that’s different. And if you’re just eatin’ cold food in a non-kosher place, well, maybe it ain’t so bad, ’cause the food ain’t gettin’ heated up with the non-kosher stuff. That’s what some folks say, anyways.
So, what’s the bottom line? Well, it ain’t so clear-cut, is it? Some say no drinks in the bathroom, period. Some say it’s okay if it’s separate from the shower. Some say it depends on the drink itself. But one thing’s for sure, you gotta be respectful, keep things clean, and follow what you believe is right. That’s what I always say.
And remember, when in doubt, ask someone who knows more than you. That’s what I do, anyway. I ain’t no expert, just tellin’ ya what I’ve heard and what makes sense to me.
