Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s gab a bit about this here… whatchamacallit… Grinch cookie jar. Yeah, that’s it. Seen them things all over the place lately, even little Timmy was yappin’ about wantin’ one for Christmas. Don’t rightly know why, cookies don’t last long enough in my house to need no fancy jar.
First off, where d’ya even get these things? Seems like every store’s got ‘em. I heard tell ya can get ‘em on that Amazon place, little Timmy’s mama, she buys everything from there. Says they got all sorts, big ones, small ones, green ones, even ones with that Grinch fella on ‘em. She showed me one on her phone, all shiny and new. Said it was from some store called Lenox, or maybe it was Department 56. Too many names for this old brain to keep up with.
Then there’s that Wayfair, always seein’ them commercials on the TV. They got ‘em too, or so they say. Folks are always talkin’ about free shippin’, whatever that means. Back in my day, ya just went to the store and got what ya needed, no fancy delivery trucks and such.
- Types of Grinch Cookie Jars: Now, from what I gather, there’s all kinds of these jars. Some are just plain jars with the Grinch’s picture slapped on, others are shaped like the Grinch himself. Some folks like the fancy ones, made of somethin’ called ceramic, looks like fancy china. Others like the plain ol’ plastic ones, good for when the little’uns start throwin’ things.
- Where to Buy Them: Like I said, Amazon, Wayfair, even that eBay place has ‘em. eBay’s like a big ol’ yard sale, ya never know what you’ll find there. Prices are all over the place too, some are cheap as dirt, others cost more than a whole month’s worth of groceries.
- What People Use Them For: Now, this is the part that gets me. They call ‘em cookie jars, but who in their right mind leaves cookies out long enough to need a jar? In my house, cookies are gone faster than a fly on a hot skillet. But I guess some folks like to look at ‘em, all pretty and whatnot. Or maybe they use ’em for other things, like candy or dog treats. My neighbor, bless her heart, she uses hers to store buttons! Said it was too pretty to just sit empty.
Speaking of prices, seems like these things can cost a pretty penny. Especially if they’re one of them “collectible” ones. I heard some folks payin’ hundreds of dollars for a jar! Can you believe that? For somethin’ you put cookies in! Land sakes, back in my day, ya used an old tin can and you were happy to have it. But I guess times have changed, huh?
I also saw some folks talkin’ about how these jars ain’t even practical. Say the cookies get all stale and dry if they sit in there too long. Well, duh! That’s why ya eat ‘em fast! But they say even if you seal ‘em up tight, the air still gets in. Guess ya gotta wrap them cookies up in somethin’ else first, like one of them ziploc bags. All this fuss just for a cookie! Makes my head spin.
And that sayin’, “hand in the cookie jar”? Folks use it when someone’s been stealin’ or doin’ somethin’ they shouldn’t. Like little Timmy sneakin’ cookies before dinner. Or that fella down the road who got caught with his hand in the company till. Same idea, I reckon, just different kinds of cookies. Though, I wouldn’t be putting money in a cookie jar that is meant for cookies, makes it hard to find that sweet snacker when you are craving one, dontcha think?
Anyways, that’s about all I know about these here Grinch cookie jars. Seems like a lot of fuss for somethin’ so simple, but I guess folks like what they like. Me? I’ll stick to my old tin can. Works just fine and don’t cost me an arm and a leg. But if you’re lookin’ for a fancy place to keep your cookies, or your buttons, or whatever else you fancy, I guess one of them Grinch jars wouldn’t hurt none. Just make sure ya eat them cookies before they get stale, ya hear?
And that’s all there is to it! Just a simple thing, that is now a big fuss for folks young and old! Makes an old lady like me wonder what they’ll come up with next!
