Okay, so, you wanna know ’bout them Yoku Moku cookies, huh? Alright, listen up, I’ll tell ya what I know. I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I know good eatin’ when I taste it.
First off, these cookies, they ain’t just any cookies, ya hear? They come from some fancy place called Tokyo, Japan. Aoyama, they call it. Sounds like a foreign country to me, but they sure know how to bake! They started makin’ these things way back in 1969, which is, well, a long, long time ago. Even before my old man was born, I reckon.
Now, the big deal with these cookies, seems to be that “sweets are important” to them folks. I can get behind that. Who don’t like somethin’ sweet now and then? They make all sorts of sweets, but the one everyone talks about is the “Cigare.” Sounds like “cigar,” but don’t you go tryin’ to light it up! It’s a rolled-up cookie, filled with butter, lots and lots of butter. My grandson, he says it’s like those fancy French cookies, but I just say it’s plain good.
They use all sorts of things in them cookies. Butter, of course, sugar, egg whites, flour… you know, the usual stuff. But they also put in almond powder and some fancy-smellin’ stuff they call “natural vanilla flavored extract.” Sounds highfalutin’ to me, but it sure makes them cookies smell heavenly. Like somethin’ you’d bake for a special occasion, you know?

I heard tell they sell these cookies in all sorts of fancy boxes. Some boxes got 54 cookies, some got 48, some even got more! They even got them gift baskets, all wrapped up pretty. Good for givin’ to folks, I guess. Birthdays, holidays, or just ’cause you feel like it. They ain’t cheap, though. Heard tell they can cost a pretty penny, some as much as $72! Lord have mercy! That’s more than I spend on groceries in a week! But I guess if you got the money and wanna impress someone, go right ahead.
Now, some folks say the best cookie in Japan ain’t even a Yoku Moku. They call it “Shiroi Koibito” which means somethin’ about a “white lover.” I ain’t got no idea what that means. It’s got a crispy biscuit with white or dark chocolate inside. Sounds good, I reckon. But I ain’t tried it, so I can’t say for sure. But these Yoku Moku cookies, them Cigares, they’re somethin’ special.
They also say these cookies last a good long while. At least 30 days, they say, before they go bad. But in my house, a box of cookies wouldn’t last 30 minutes let alone 30 days! But if you gotta keep ’em around, they’ll stay fresh for a bit. That’s good, I guess, if you don’t wanna eat ’em all at once. But I ain’t never had that problem.
So, there you have it. That’s all I know ’bout them Yoku Moku cookies. They’re fancy, they’re tasty, and they cost a bit of money. But if you like a good cookie, and you got a few extra dollars lyin’ around, give ’em a try. You might just find yourself hooked. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you eat the whole box in one sittin’!
And remember, no matter how fancy the cookies are, nothin’ beats a good ol’ homemade pie. But that’s a story for another day.
