Alright, let’s talk about this “dinner club Chicago” thing, ya know? Folks in the city, they got all sorts of fancy places to eat. They call ’em “dinner clubs” now, I guess. Back in my day, we just called it supper, or maybe eatin’ out if it was somethin’ special.
So, I heard tell there’s these places, like the Untitled Supper Club. Sounds real highfalutin, don’t it? Probably got them tiny portions and big prices. And Joy District? Hmph, sounds like a place where young folks go to make a ruckus. Probably loud music and not enough food on the plate.
Then there’s ROOF. Now, that just sounds dangerous. Who wants to eat on a roof? What if you fall off? And Carnivale? Is that like a circus or somethin’? I ain’t payin’ good money to eat with clowns and jugglers. Give me a good plate of mashed potatoes and some fried chicken any day.
- Kingston Mines, that sounds like a place where they dig up rocks, not food.
- Cafe Prague? Is that even in America? Sounds like somethin’ foreign.
- No.18 Karaoke? So, you gotta sing for your supper now? I ain’t no songbird, I just wanna eat!
- Bamboo Club? What kinda food they servin’ there? Bamboo shoots? I ain’t a panda bear!
Now, somebody told me about a place called Egg Tuck. That sounds more like it. Eggs are good, filling food. And This Little Goat? Well, goats are kinda ornery, but maybe the food’s good. Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe? Now that sounds sweet. I do like a good pancake, especially with lots of syrup. Uptown Deli, Khmai, Tama, Ying Dim Sum… Too many fancy names! My head’s spinnin’!
Then there’s Eataly Chicago and MingHin Cuisine. Again with the foreign stuff! Can’t a body just get a decent burger and fries? Chavas Tacos El Original… tacos, now that’s somethin’ I can get behind. Good, honest food.
And what about Willies ‘n Waffles, No Vacancy, Portillo’s… Seems like a lot of choices for just eatin’ supper. Umaga Bakehouse and Restaurante and Tamaleria la Bendicion… Too much talkin’, not enough eatin’!
But then I heard about this Ed Debevic’s place. Been around since 1984, they say. A real old-timey diner, like from the 1950s. Now, that’s somethin’ I understand. They say the waiters are sassy, but that’s alright. I can handle a little sass. As long as the food’s good and there’s plenty of it, that’s all that matters.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a place to eat in Chicago, I reckon you got a lot of choices. Me? I’d probably stick to somethin’ simple and familiar. Give me a good diner with a friendly face and a plate full of comfort food. None of that fancy stuff for me. I just want a good meal at a fair price. That’s all this old lady needs.
In the end, it’s all about finding a place that feels right, you know? A place where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a good meal. Whether it’s a fancy dinner club or a greasy spoon diner, it doesn’t matter as long as the food is good and the company is better. And for heaven’s sake, make sure there’s enough to fill a body up! That’s what I say about “dinner club Chicago” or whatever fancy name they give it these days.
