Alright, let’s talk about them drinkable desserts, you know, the sweet stuff you can gulp down when it’s hot as blazes outside. I ain’t no fancy chef or nothin’, just a plain ol’ body who likes somethin’ cool and tasty when the sun’s beatin’ down.
First off, you got them slushies. Remember when we was kids? Just ice and some sugary juice, whizzed up in a blender. You could use anythin’ – Kool-Aid, soda pop, even just some squished-up berries and water. Nowadays, they got all sorts of fancy flavors, but the ol’ homemade kind is still the best, if you ask me. Kids love ‘em, and let’s be honest, so do us grown-ups when nobody’s lookin’. Just pour some juice in a blender, throw in a whole lotta ice, and whiz it up ’til it’s all slushy like. If it ain’t sweet enough, just dump in some more sugar. That’s all there is to it.
Then there’s ice cream. Yeah, yeah, I know, you eat it with a spoon, but hear me out. You ever melt it down a bit ‘til it’s kinda drinkable? Or better yet, blend it up with some milk and make a milkshake? That’s what I’m talkin’ about! You can buy all kinds at the store, but makin’ your own is where the fun’s at. We used to do it with a big ol’ bag of ice and salt, shakin’ it ‘til our arms near fell off. Now, they got fancy machines, but the old way still works just fine. And if you wanna get real crazy, throw in some fruit or chocolate syrup. Heck, even peanut butter if that’s your thing.
- Milkshakes: Like I said, blend up some ice cream with milk. You can make it thick or thin, dependin’ on how much milk you put in. Add some flavorin’ if you want. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry… the possibilities are endless. And a little whipped cream on top never hurt nobody.
- Floats: This is just ice cream in soda pop. Root beer float is the classic, but you can use any kind of soda you like. Just plop a scoop or two of ice cream in a big glass, then pour the soda over it. It’ll fizz up and make a mess, but that’s part of the fun.
And don’t forget them frozen yogurt things. They’re kinda like ice cream, but tangier. Good for you, they say. I don’t know about all that, but they sure taste good on a hot day. You can buy it ready-made, or freeze your own yogurt and blend it up later. It’s the same deal as ice cream, really. Just a little different taste.
Now, some folks like them cobblers. They ain’t exactly drinkable, but they’re soft and juicy, and if you put enough ice cream on top, it kinda melts down and makes a nice sweet mess. Peaches, berries, apples… whatever’s in season. Bake ‘em up with some sugar and a crust, and you got yourself a treat.
And let’s not forget about them popsicles! Just frozen juice on a stick, really. You can buy ‘em at the store, all sorts of colors and flavors, or make your own. Just pour some juice into little molds, stick in a popsicle stick, and freeze ‘em solid. Kids go crazy for ‘em, and they’re cheap and easy to make. We used to make them with honey sometimes instead of sugar, tasted real good that way. And it don’t have to be just juice neither. You can freeze yogurt, or even pudding if you want.
Then there’s them fancy teas and such. I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout the hot stuff you drink when you’re sick. I mean them iced teas, with all sorts of fruits and flavors mixed in. Sweet and refreshing, perfect for sippin’ on the porch swing. You can buy ‘em already made, or brew your own tea and add whatever you like. Lemon, mint, peaches… just throw it in and let it sit for a while. Add some ice and you’re good to go.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of drinkable desserts to keep you cool when the weather’s hot. Nothin’ fancy, just good ol’ fashioned sweets that’ll hit the spot. Whether you buy ‘em or make ‘em yourself, it don’t matter. Just get somethin’ cold and sweet and enjoy. And don’t forget to share with the young’uns… and maybe an old lady or two!
Summer time and good drinks go together like peas and carrots, just like them old sayings go. So find yourself a good recipe and have a good time with it. No matter how old you are, you ain’t too old for a nice cold drink in the summer sun.
