Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… hibiscus water thing. My neighbor, she told me about it. Said it’s good for ya, especially when it’s hot like a furnace outside.
First thing, you gotta get them… whatchamacallit… dried hibiscus flowers. Don’t ask me where to find ’em. Maybe that fancy store in town, or maybe online. The neighbor, she give me some, so I didn’t have to go lookin’. Lucky me, I guess.
Now, get yourself a pot. Not too small, not too big. Fill it up with water, most of the way, like, maybe three-quarters full. Then, dump in them dried flowers. My neighbor said two cups, so I guess that’s about right. Don’t be stingy, but don’t go wastin’ them either. They ain’t cheap, you know.
Next, put that pot on the stove and turn the fire up high. Let it boil, let it bubble like a hot spring. You’ll see the water turnin’ all red, like a beet, but prettier. Once it’s boilin’ good, turn off the fire and put a lid on the pot. Let it sit there, just sit and cool down. Don’t go messin’ with it. Patience, you gotta have patience.
- Get dried hibiscus flowers.
- Fill a pot with water.
- Add the flowers to the pot.
- Boil the water.
- Let it cool down.
This waitin’ part, it takes a while. You can go do somethin’ else, sweep the porch, feed the chickens, whatever you gotta do. Just don’t forget about the pot. You want that water to get nice and cool. Room temperature, you know? Like when you leave a glass of water on the counter.
Once it’s cool, that’s pretty much it. You got your hibiscus water. Now, you can drink it straight, if you like that tart taste. It’s kinda sour, kinda sweet, like a cranberry but different. Me, I like to add a little somethin’ sweet to it. A spoonful of honey, maybe, or a bit of sugar. Just a little, though, don’t want to make it too sweet. Then it just tastes like sugary water and that ain’t the point.
This here hibiscus water, it’s good for you in the summer. Keeps you cool, like a shade tree. When it’s hot and you’re sweatin’ like a pig, this stuff will quench your thirst better than anything. My neighbor, she says it’s got all them fancy anti-whatsit things in it. Anty-ox-see-dants, or somethin’ like that. Sounds important, so I guess it’s good.
Kept me feelin’ good all through the hot days, I tell you. No more draggin’ myself around like a sack of potatoes in the heat. And you know what? It tastes pretty darn good too, especially when you add that little bit of sweetness. Way better than that sugary soda pop the kids are always drinkin’.
So, there you have it. That’s how you make this hibiscus water. It ain’t rocket science, just some flowers and water and a little bit of time. Easy peasy. You should try it. Might do you some good, especially when the sun’s beatin’ down and you need somethin’ to cool ya off. And who knows, maybe you’ll feel all fancy and healthy too, with them anty-ox-see-dants doin’ their work.
One last thing, you can keep the water in the fridge. Makes it even more refreshin’. Just pour it in a pitcher or a jar, and stick it in the fridge. Then you got a nice, cool drink whenever you want it. Perfect for a hot afternoon, sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the world go by. That’s what I like to do, anyway.
And that’s all I know about this here hibiscus water. Hope it helps ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go water my own flowers. They ain’t hibiscus, but they need water just the same.
