Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these here dinner candles. Folks these days, they always lookin’ for somethin’ fancy, somethin’ to make things all “romantic,” you know? Back in my day, we didn’t need no fancy candles. We had the moon, the stars, and if we were lucky, a little kerosene lamp. But times change, I guess.
Now, if you gonna use these dinner candles, you gotta do it right. Don’t just stick ’em any old place. You want that “warm, soft light” them fancy folks talk about. They say it makes everything look better, even your old man’s face. Says it smooths out the wrinkles and makes his eyes shine. Hmph, I reckon a good night’s sleep would do the same, but what do I know?
- First off, you gotta put them candles all around the room, some high, some low. Like them “pillar candles,” them fat ones, and them little “tea lights,” the tiny ones. Mix ’em up, they say. Makes it look interesting, I guess. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me.
- And don’t go and make the room too bright. Turn down them electric lights, they say. You want it soft and “romantic.” Back in my day, “romantic” was gettin’ the chores done before sundown so you could sit on the porch and watch the fireflies. But hey, each to their own.
Now, about them smells. These candles, they ain’t just for light, no sir. They got smells too! Flowery smells, like roses and them other garden things. And fruity smells, like apples and such. They say these smells make you feel all lovey-dovey. I say a good apple pie does the trick just fine, but who am I to judge?
Setting the mood is what they call it. Dim lights, candles all over, and music. Can’t forget the music, they say. Gotta have somethin’ soft and slow playin’ in the background. Back in my day, the only music we had was the crickets chirpin’ and the cows mooin’, but I guess that ain’t “romantic” enough for these young folks.
You know, they got all sorts of candles too. Scented candles, for makin’ the place smell good. Bathroom candles, bedroom candles…Seems like they got a candle for everythin’ these days. I tell ya, it’s a whole ‘nother world. We used to just have candles for when the power went out, and that was that. Now, it’s all about “atmosphere” and “ambiance.” Big words for somethin’ so simple, if you ask me.
And don’t even get me started on how much these things cost. Why, you could buy a whole bag of flour for the price of some of them fancy candles! But I guess if it makes folks happy, then it’s money well spent, right? Though I still think a good home-cooked meal and some honest conversation is more romantic than any candle ever could be.
They say a lot of folks spend hours online lookin’ for the best candles. Hours! Can you believe that? Searchin’ through all them stores, tryin’ to find just the right smell, the right color, the right size. Seems like a waste of time to me. There’s more important things to be doin’. But I ain’t one to tell other folks how to spend their time or their money. If they wanna fill their houses with candles, well, that’s their business.
So, there you have it. A little bit about dinner candles, from an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. They might not be my cup of tea, but if they make you happy, then go for it. Just don’t forget the important things in life, you hear? Like family, friends, and a good, strong cup of coffee in the mornin’. Now, that’s somethin’ worth savourin’.
And one more thing. Don’t you go burnin’ the house down with all them candles. Be careful, now. You hear? Use ‘em smart. Put ‘em in safe places and don’t ever leave ‘em burnin’ when you ain’t around. Fire is a dangerous thing, and you don’t want to mess with it. So be safe and enjoy your fancy candles, if that’s what you want. But like I said, a little bit of common sense goes a long way.
Remember, it ain’t about the candles, it’s about the folks you are with, the food you are sharin’, and the memories you are makin’. Candles just add a little extra light, that’s all.
