Well, you know, folks always be askin’ about the size of a dinner plate. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I reckon I know a thing or two about plates.
Big Plates, Small Plates
Back in my day, plates, they was just plates. Didn’t matter much the size. We ate what we had, and we was grateful. Nowadays, you got all these fancy plates, different sizes for different things. It’s a wonder anyone can keep up.
You got your big ol’ dinner plates, the ones you use for a good, hearty meal. Then there’s them smaller plates, for when you just want a little somethin’ somethin’. And don’t even get me started on them tiny plates for them fancy desserts. Who needs all that?
Size of a Dinner Plate
Now, if you’re askin’ me, a good dinner plate, it should be big enough to hold a decent amount of food. You don’t want no skimpy portions, do ya? Not in my house, no sir.
- A good plate, it’s gotta be sturdy.
- None of that flimsy stuff that breaks easy.
- And it should be able to hold a good heapin’ of mashed taters, some meat, and maybe some greens on the side.
Most dinner plates, they’re about, what, 10 inches or so, maybe a little bigger. That’s what they say, anyway. Ten to 12 inches, that’s the usual size. Big enough for a full meal for a working person, I guess. I remember them old plates we had, they was probably around that size. Held a lot of food, they did.
Why Does the Size Matter?
Now, why does the size of a plate matter? Well, I guess it’s ’cause folks like to have a lot on their plate. Not too much though, just enough. Make the food look good, ya know? Makes you wanna eat it more when it looks good. And a big plate can hold all sorts of things. Like meat and potatoes and veggies. All on one plate. It is important to put food nicely.
I remember back when, we just had one size of plate for everything. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Didn’t matter. We ate what we had, and that was that. But I suppose these days, people like to have choices. And they like their food to look pretty.
Different Plates for Different Folks
Some folks, they like them big plates. Fill ’em up high, they do. Others, they prefer them smaller plates. Just a little bit of this, a little bit of that. It is all about what people like. Some like big plates, some like small. My old man, he liked a big plate. Always piled it high with food. Me, I like a smaller plate. Just enough for me.
- Some folks eat a lot, need a big plate.
- Some folks eat a little, need a smaller plate.
It is all about how you like your food. And how much you like to eat. My old neighbor, she always had the smallest plates. Said it helped her watch her figure. Me, I never worried about that. A little extra never hurt nobody.
Plates These Days
These days, you go to them fancy restaurants, they got all sorts of plates. Big ones, small ones, square ones, round ones. It’s a sight to see, I tell ya. And they put the food on there all fancy-like. Like it’s a work of art or somethin’.
Back in my day, we just put the food on the plate and ate it. Didn’t worry about how it looked. As long as it tasted good, that’s all that mattered. But I guess times change. People like things to look nice, even their food.
Just a Plate
But at the end of the day, a plate is just a plate, right? It’s somethin’ to hold your food. Don’t matter how big it is, or how small it is, or what shape it is. As long as it does the job, that’s all that matters. Size of a dinner plate, big or small, it is just a plate.
So, the next time you’re wonderin’ about the size of a dinner plate, just remember what I told ya. It’s just a plate. Don’t get too caught up in all that fancy stuff. Just find one that’s big enough to hold your food, and you’re good to go. Eat your food. Be happy. That’s all that matters.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go have me a slice of pie. On a regular sized plate, of course.
