Help! I Need a Rehearsal Dinner Speech (Father of the Groom Speech Made Easy)
Okay, so, my son got married last weekend! It was a blast, but man, was I nervous about that rehearsal dinner speech. Public speaking isn’t really my thing, you know? But I had to do it, it’s my son! So, here’s how I managed to get through it without completely embarrassing myself or him.

First off, I started early. Like, weeks in advance. I knew if I left it to the last minute, I’d be a total wreck. So, I started to read something about it online. I jotted down some ideas, nothing fancy, just some thoughts about my son, his bride, and their relationship.
Brainstorming
I spent a few days just brainstorming. I thought about all the good times with my son – his childhood, his achievements, the kind of man he’s become. Then, I thought about his bride and how happy she makes him. It was actually pretty emotional, thinking about all that stuff. I even teared up a couple of times, not gonna lie.
Writing it Down
Once I had a bunch of ideas, I tried to put them into some kind of order. It was rough at first, like really rough. I’m no writer. But I just kept at it, writing, and rewriting. I wanted it to be heartfelt but not too sappy, you know? And I definitely wanted some humor in there, keep it light.
Practicing
This was the hard part. I practiced that speech in front of the mirror, in the shower, in the car. My wife probably thought I was going crazy. But I wanted to get it down, so I didn’t have to rely on notes too much. I stumbled over words, forgot whole sentences, it was a mess. But each time, it got a little bit better.
Getting Feedback
I even asked my wife to listen to it a couple of times. She gave me some good feedback, told me what parts were working, what needed work. That was super helpful, having a second opinion.
The Big Night
Finally, the night of the rehearsal dinner arrived. I was still nervous, but I felt prepared. I had my notes, but I barely needed them. I spoke from the heart, told some stories, made people laugh, and even choked up a little bit at the end. I started by introducing myself: “Hi everyone, I’m [son’s name]’s father.” Then, shared a touching childhood story about my son. Talked about the journey he’s been on and how much he’s grown. I expressed my deep love and admiration for his bride, and how happy I am to welcome her into the family.
The Result
It wasn’t perfect, but it was real. And you know what? People loved it. My son and his bride were happy, and that’s all that mattered. It felt good to stand up there and express my love and pride for my son and welcome his amazing wife into our family.
