Gender Reveal Cookies: Where to Buy and What to Look For

Alright, so let me tell you about this little project I got myself into – making gender reveal cookies. It all started when my best friend announced she was pregnant. We were super excited, and of course, I offered to make some treats for the gender reveal party. I’ve always loved baking, but this was my first time diving into the world of gender reveal goodies.

First things first, I had to figure out what kind of cookies to make. I browsed around and saw that sugar cookies were the go-to for this kind of thing. They’re like a blank canvas, perfect for decorating. Plus, who doesn’t love a good sugar cookie, right? So, sugar cookies it was. I decided to make a vanilla frosting to go with them, ’cause it’s a classic and goes with pretty much everything.

Next up, the design. I wanted something cute and on-theme, so I found these adorable cookie cutters shaped like baby bottles and onesies. I figured they’d be perfect for a gender reveal. I also grabbed some pink and blue food coloring for the frosting. Now, for the actual baking. I whipped up a batch of sugar cookie dough, rolled it out, and started cutting out those baby bottle and onesie shapes. It was kinda therapeutic, actually. Once they were all cut out, I popped them in the oven and waited impatiently.

While the cookies were baking, I made the vanilla frosting. I divided it into two bowls and dyed one pink and the other blue. I’m not gonna lie, I felt like a mad scientist mixing those colors, trying to get them just right. Finally, the cookies were done. I let them cool down a bit before the fun part – decorating!

I filled some piping bags with the pink and blue frosting and got to work. I outlined each cookie with white frosting first, then filled them in with either pink or blue. I tried to make them look all neat and professional, but hey, I’m no expert. They turned out pretty darn cute, though, if I do say so myself.

  • Baking the Cookies:
    • Made the sugar cookie dough.
    • Rolled out the dough and cut out shapes using baby bottle and onesie cookie cutters.
    • Baked the cookies until golden brown.
  • Preparing the Frosting:
    • Made a batch of vanilla frosting.
    • Divided the frosting into two bowls.
    • Dyed one bowl of frosting pink and the other blue.
  • Decorating the Cookies:
    • Filled piping bags with pink, blue, and white frosting.
    • Outlined each cookie with white frosting.
    • Filled in the cookies with either pink or blue frosting.

Once they were all decorated, I carefully packaged each cookie individually. I wanted them to stay fresh and look presentable. I found some cute little cellophane bags and tied them with pink and blue ribbons. They looked so festive! On the day of the party, I set up a little dessert table and displayed the cookies. Everyone loved them! They were a hit, both in terms of taste and looks. It felt good to contribute to my friend’s special day in my own little way.

It might sound like a simple thing, but it was a nice little adventure for me, you know? And the party was really a blast. This whole baking experience got me thinking, maybe I should do this more often. It’s fun, it’s creative, and people seem to enjoy the results. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a little side hustle with custom cookies. We’ll see! Anyway, that’s my story about making gender reveal cookies. Hope you enjoyed it!
