Okay, so I’ve been seeing these dog lick mats everywhere lately, and I finally caved and got one for my pup, Max. He’s a super anxious guy, always licking everything – me, the furniture, you name it. I figured this might give him something to focus on, and boy, was I right!
First off, I had to figure out what the heck to put on this thing. The package didn’t say much, just to use stuff that can be smeared or frozen. I did some quick reading online and saw a bunch of ideas. It seemed like anything goes, as long as it’s safe for dogs, of course. I decided to start simple.
I grabbed some peanut butter from the pantry, the all-natural kind without any of that weird xylitol stuff, because I heard that is bad for dogs. I smeared a thin layer all over the mat. Max went nuts! He was licking away for a good twenty minutes, totally engrossed. It was the quietest he’d been all day.

Honestly, this lick mat has been a game-changer. Max is so much calmer, and I’m not constantly being followed around for licks. If you have a dog who loves to lick or needs something to keep them busy, you gotta try one of these things. It’s the simplest things, right?
