Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make a Mickey Mouse cookie jar for a while now, and I finally got around to it! It was a bit of a process, but I’m so happy with how it turned out.
First, I had to gather my materials. I went to a local store to find all stuff I needed, like a basic ceramic cookie jar, some acrylic paints, brushes, and a sealant. I also printed out a picture of Mickey Mouse to use as a reference. I just found the picture online somewhere and decided to have a try with it.
Next, I cleaned the cookie jar with soap and water to make sure the paint would stick well. Once it was dry, I started sketching Mickey’s outline onto the jar with a pencil. It took a few tries to get it just right, but I didn’t want to mess it up!
Once I was happy with the sketch, I started painting. I started with the black parts of Mickey’s body, like his ears and shoes, I was trying so hard to keep my hands steady. After the black dried, I moved onto the red for his pants and the white for his gloves, and finally the skin tone for his face. I used this cheap brush to paint them on.
- Paint the black areas: This includes Mickey’s ears, nose, and shoes.
- Paint the red areas: This is for Mickey’s shorts.
- Paint the white areas: These are Mickey’s gloves and the buttons on his shorts.
- Paint the skin tone: This is for Mickey’s face and hands.
It took a few coats of paint to get everything looking smooth and even. But with some Christmas songs playing on, I still had a good time working on it. Between each coat, I let the paint dry completely. This was probably the most time-consuming part, waiting for the paint to dry! I had to do something else while waiting, or I would be driven crazy.
After all the paint was dry, I added some details, like the buttons on his shorts and the pupils in his eyes. I used a really fine brush for this, and it made a big difference in making it look like Mickey.
The final step was to seal the paint. I used a clear, glossy sealant and applied a couple of coats to make sure the paint wouldn’t chip or fade. Had to make it last longer you know? Then I let it to dry in a well-ventilated place.
And that’s it! My very own Mickey Mouse cookie jar. It’s now sitting proudly on my kitchen counter, filled with my favorite cookies. I just fill it up with some cookies I bought from a supermarket, tastes good!
My tips for you
If you want to make your own, here are a few tips:
- Be patient with the drying time.
- Use a good quality sealant to protect the paint.
- Don’t be afraid to get creative with the design!
It’s such a fun and rewarding project, and now I have a unique and personalized cookie jar that I absolutely love. Also every time I look at it, I feel proud of myself!
