White Linen Drink, So Refreshing! (The Perfect Cocktail for Hot Weather)
So, the other day I was feeling kind of burnt out after a long day, you know? I really needed something to help me chill out and refresh. That’s when I remembered seeing something about a cocktail called the “White Linen.” It sounded fancy, and I figured, why not give it a shot?
I went and gathered everything I needed. The main thing was gin – I used some that I already had at home. Then there was this elderflower liqueur stuff. I actually had to go out and buy that because I’d never used it before. And of course, cucumbers – can’t forget those. Oh, and some lime juice, which I luckily had leftover from making tacos last week.
First, I grabbed a shaker, one of those metal ones. I tossed in a few ice cubes, maybe five or six. Then I poured in the gin. I didn’t measure it exactly, just kind of eyeballed it – probably around two shots. Next, I added the elderflower liqueur, maybe half the amount of the gin.
Then came the cucumber. I sliced up a few pieces, not too thick, and threw those into the shaker. After that, I squeezed in the juice from half a lime. I put the lid on the shaker and gave it a good shake for maybe 10 or 15 seconds, just enough to get everything mixed and cold.
I grabbed a nice glass, the kind you’d use for a fancy drink, and strained the cocktail into it, making sure to leave out the ice and cucumber. Some folks might have also added a dash of sour mix for a slightly different flavor. It’s all about what tastes good to you.
- First try: The first time I made it, it tasted pretty good, but a little too strong for me.
- Second try: I tried again, this time using a bit less gin and more elderflower liqueur. That made it a bit sweeter and smoother, which I liked better.
I ended up sitting on my porch, sipping my White Linen cocktail, and it was just what I needed. It was light, refreshing, and had a nice little kick to it. Definitely a good choice for a relaxing evening. I’ll probably make it again sometime when I need to unwind after a hectic day.
Oh, I did a bit of reading about it after, and apparently, this drink was created by some bartender named Rene Dominguez at a place called Ella Dining Room back in 2008. It got popular at some other bar in Sacramento, too. Seems like it’s a hit over there!
