Okay, so I’ve been trying to get into this whole “before dinner drinks” thing. You know, like a real adult.
So the other night, I thought, “Let’s do this.” I did some digging online – turns out there’s a name for these pre-dinner drinks. They call them “aperitifs”. Who knew? I sure didn’t. Apparently, they’re supposed to get your stomach ready for a big meal.
I looked up some popular ones, and the names alone sounded fancy, like “Negroni” and “Aperol Spritz”. I felt like I was in a movie or something.
First, I tried making an Espresso Martini, ’cause I’m all about coffee, and it sounded easy enough. Four ingredients, no big deal, right? I messed it up big time.
Then, I moved on to this Negroni thing. I saw it’s an “iconic aperitif” – sounds important. And one of the ingredients, Campari, is also an aperitif. I was like I’m gonna make it.
After I decided to make a Negroni, I looked up what I needed to buy to make it. I went to the liquor store, got all the stuff, and came home ready to play bartender.
I followed some recipe I found – it seemed simple enough. But, I gotta say, mixing drinks is harder than it looks. I ended up with something that tasted, well, let’s just say it was strong. A bit too strong. But I drank it anyway, ’cause I didn’t want to waste all that fancy alcohol. I used the glass cup I bought and drank it, It felt pretty good!
There was also this one called “Toasted Almond and Apricot Gin Fizz” with champagne. Champagne! I didn’t get to try that one, but it’s on my list. I mean, anything with champagne has to be good, right?
So, yeah, that’s been my adventure with aperitifs so far. It’s been fun, a little messy, but definitely a learning experience. It made me realize I need a lot more practice in the drink-making department. But hey, I’m getting there. One clumsy cocktail at a time.
I’m thinking of throwing a little party soon. I read somewhere that 7 pm is a good time to start. Gives people time to get off work and head over. Now, I just need to figure out what drinks to make. Maybe I’ll stick to something simple, like wine. Or just buy some pre-made cocktails. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.
- Tried making an Espresso Martini – total fail.
- Made a Negroni – super strong, but drank it anyway.
- Need to try that champagne one.
- Parties at 7 pm? Sounds about right.
- Maybe I should just buy the drinks.
My Aperitif trials
Anyway, that’s my little story about trying to be fancy with pre-dinner drinks. Cheers to more experiments and hopefully fewer disasters!
