Alright, alright, let’s gab about these low salt desserts, yeah? Don’t you go thinkin’ this is some fancy-pants talk. It ain’t. It’s just good eatin’, the kind that don’t make your feet swell up like water balloons.
Now, I ain’t no doctor, mind you. But I know too much salt ain’t good. Makes you thirsty, makes your heart go thump-thump in a bad way, and Lord knows what else. So, when it comes to sweets, I figure, why not go easy on the salt? It ain’t like sugar’s got no salt in it to begin with, right?
First thing you gotta know is, fruit is your friend. Yeah, fruit. Apples, bananas, berries… all that good stuff. It’s sweet all on its own, no need for fancy fixin’s or a whole shaker of salt. You can just chop it up, maybe add a little dab of honey if you’re feelin’ fancy. That’s what I call a good dessert.
- Apple slices with a sprinkle of cinnamon: Warm ’em up a bit, they get all soft and yummy. Cinnamon’s got a nice kick to it, you don’t even miss the salt.
- Banana with a dollop of peanut butter: Now, make sure that peanut butter don’t have too much salt in it. Some of them fancy ones, they load it up. Just a little bit is all you need. Good for ya, too. Gives you energy, like them fellas on the TV say.
- Berries and cream: But use real cream, not that fake stuff. And just a little bit, mind you. Don’t wanna go overboard. Berries are sweet enough all by themselves.
Then there’s them puddings. Not the kind you buy in them little cups, all full of stuff you can’t even pronounce. I’m talkin’ about homemade pudding. You can make it with milk and some cornstarch, maybe a little bit of sugar. And listen to this, you can even use somethin’ called “chia seeds”. Don’t ask me what they are, some kind of plant magic, I reckon. But you mix ’em with milk, a little bit of that vanilla stuff, and let it sit, and it gets all thick and pudding-like. You can throw in some fruit too, make it even better.
And if you’re hankerin’ for somethin’ baked, well, there’s ways to do that too, without all the salt. You gotta be careful though, ’cause a lot of them recipes, they call for salt. Just leave it out, I say. Most of the time, you won’t even notice it’s gone.
Low-sugar desserts are good too, you know. Sugar and salt, they kinda go together sometimes. So if you’re cuttin’ back on one, might as well cut back on the other. There’s these things they call “low carb” too. That just means less stuff that turns into sugar in your body, I think. Anyways, it’s all about finding what tastes good and don’t make you feel all bloated and sluggish.
I heard tell of folks makin’ cakes with applesauce instead of oil or butter. Makes ’em moist, they say. And you can use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar. Just gotta remember, a little goes a long way. You don’t want it too sweet. That ain’t the point. The point is to have a little somethin’ sweet, somethin’ that satisfies your cravin’, without all the bad stuff.
So, there you have it. Low salt desserts, ain’t so hard, is it? Just use your common sense. Taste your food. If it tastes too salty, don’t eat it. If it tastes good, well then, go ahead and enjoy. Just don’t overdo it. Too much of anything ain’t good for ya, that’s what my grandma used to say, and she lived to be a hundred, so she must’ve known a thing or two.
And remember, eatin’ healthy don’t mean you gotta eat boring. You can still have your sweets, you can still enjoy your food. Just gotta be smart about it, that’s all. And for heaven’s sake, lay off the salt! Your heart will thank you for it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got a hankerin’ for some of them apple slices with cinnamon. Gonna go warm ’em up and enjoy a little somethin’ sweet, without all the fuss.
