So, after my little kitchen experiment, I figured out the main difference. A dinner knife is designed to handle more than just butter. It can manage soft foods, maybe even cut through a soft piece of chicken or something. The butter knife is a one-trick pony – great for butter, not much else.
It’s funny how you can use something every day and not really think about it. But now, I have a whole new appreciation for these two look-alike utensils.
