Okay, so today I decided to make some m&m brown sugar cookies. I’ve been seeing these recipes all over the internet, and they looked so good, I just had to try them out. Plus, who doesn’t love a good cookie, right?
First, I gathered all my ingredients. This was pretty standard stuff: flour, baking soda, salt, butter, brown sugar (the star of the show!), eggs, vanilla extract, and of course, a big bag of m&ms. I made sure my butter was softened because that’s key for getting a good cookie texture. Nobody wants a hard cookie, that’s for sure.
Then, I started mixing. I creamed together the softened butter and brown sugar until it was all light and fluffy. This took a bit of elbow grease, but it’s worth it. After that, I beat in the eggs one at a time, and then stirred in the vanilla. It was already smelling delicious, and I hadn’t even gotten to the dry ingredients yet!
In a separate bowl, I whisked together the flour, baking soda, and salt. I’m not sure why this is, maybe to make sure it’s distributed well. And I slowly added it to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. You don’t want to overmix at this point, or your cookies will be tough. And nobody likes tough cookies, believe me.
Adding the m&ms
Now for the fun part – the m&ms! I poured in a generous amount of those colorful candies and gently folded them into the dough. I mean, the more the merrier when it comes to m&ms, right? I saved some to add to the cookies after they were formed on the tray as well, to make them extra pretty.
Baking Time
I preheated my oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lined a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, I scooped rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave some space between each one. Cookies need room to spread out, you know.
I baked them for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges were golden brown. The smell that filled my kitchen was amazing. It was like a warm hug, honestly.
Cooling and Eating
Once they were done, I let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This is the hardest part because they smell so good, and you just want to eat them right away! Patience is a virtue, or so they say.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they were cool enough to eat. And let me tell you, they were worth the wait! The cookies were soft and chewy, with a slight crispiness around the edges. The brown sugar gave them a rich, caramel-like flavor, and the m&ms added the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness. I will say, maybe next time I’ll add even more m&ms, because they did sink into the cookies a little bit, and I like to see them more.
