Chic Black and White Dinner Plates: Easy Ways to Elevate Your Table Setting
Okay, so I wanted to try something different for my dinner party last weekend. I decided to go with a black and white theme for the dinner plates. It sounds simple, but it actually took some doing to get it right.
First, I started by looking around for inspiration. I flipped through some magazines and scrolled through a bunch of ideas online. I found some pretty cool stuff and jotted down some ideas that I thought would work for my place.
Then, I hit the shops. I needed to find the right plates, obviously. I wanted a mix of black and white plates, some with patterns, some just plain. It was harder than I thought! I spent a good few hours going from store to store, comparing different styles and prices. Finally, I found a set I liked – a mix of solid black, solid white, and some with simple black and white stripes and polka dots. They looked pretty chic, if I do say so myself.
Next up was the table setting. I already had a white tablecloth, so that was a good start. I laid out the plates, alternating between black and white. For the cutlery, I just used my regular silverware, which looked fine against the plates. I also added plain white linen napkins – nothing fancy, but they matched the tablecloth and looked clean and simple.
- Place the dinner plate in the center.
- Put the salad plate on top of the dinner plate.
- Arrange the forks to the left of the plates.
- Place the knives and spoons to the right.
I wanted a centerpiece, so I picked up some white flowers from the local market. I arranged them in a simple black vase I already had. It looked pretty good, not too over the top, but it added a nice touch.
Setting Up
When it came to the actual setup, I made sure each place setting had a good mix of the different plate designs. I placed a bread plate above the forks and added the glasses to the right, above the knives. I made sure everything looked balanced and not too cluttered.
The dinner party went off without a hitch! Everyone loved the black and white theme. They said it looked really elegant and different. I was pretty proud of how it all turned out. It was a bit of work, but totally worth it. I’ll definitely be trying out more themed dinners in the future. It’s a fun way to make a regular dinner party feel a bit more special.
