Desserts That Go With Chili: Here Are Our Top Dessert Picks To Serve After Chili
Today, I was craving some chili, but I also wanted a little something sweet to go with it. It got me thinking, what desserts actually pair well with a hearty, spicy bowl of chili? I decided to do a little experimenting in my kitchen to find out.
First Attempts
I started with some classic options. I grabbed a pint of vanilla ice cream from the freezer. I mean, ice cream goes with everything, right? I dished out a bowl of chili and then a scoop of ice cream. The cold, creamy ice cream was a nice contrast to the hot and spicy chili. It did a good job of cooling down my mouth, but I wanted to try something else.
Experimenting Further
Next, I thought about fall flavors since it’s that time of year. I happened to have some apples, so I whipped up a quick apple strudel. I baked it until it was golden brown and the apples were soft. The warm, sweet strudel was a decent match, but it felt a bit too heavy after a big bowl of chili. I felt there must be something better.
Getting Creative
- Then, I remembered seeing a recipe for a decadent chocolate lava cake. I’ve made it before, and it’s always a hit. I figured the rich, gooey chocolate might complement the chili’s savory notes.
- After that, I saw some churros in the market, I was thinking that crispy texture might be good, and I can make some chocolate source to dip them. The texture is good, but the taste is not very good with chili.
- I’m also considering making a citrus sorbet. I’m thinking that light and refreshing taste could be good after eating spicy food.
- I also found some inspirations such as chocolate mousse and pineapple upside-down cake. Those are also great ideas!
I haven’t made the lava cake, sorbet, mousse, or cake yet, but I think they have potential, I think I need to try that next time! I’ll make sure to take some photos and share my final thoughts. Making the apple strudel was fun, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect chili dessert companion. I might even try some other fruity options.
Alright, that’s all for my little kitchen adventure today. Stay tuned for more updates on my dessert experiments! Hopefully, I’ll find the ultimate dessert to enjoy with chili.
