Dinner Plate Flowers Blooming Season: What You Need to Know

Okay, so, I tried to make these dinner plate flowers. It’s kinda cool, you know? I saw some pictures online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”

First off, I went and got myself some of those big flower seeds. I live in a place that’s kinda like zone 4, you know, cold winters, not too hot summers, kinda like Minnesota. I planted them outside cause that’s what people online were saying you should do. After I put them in the ground, I just gave them a good watering to start them off.

Dinner Plate Flowers Blooming Season: What You Need to Know

Here’s what I did step by step:

  • Got the seeds.
  • Planted them in my garden.
  • Watered them real good at the beginning.

Then, I waited, and I mean, I waited a lot. It felt like forever. The guides online said it would take about eight weeks for them to start showing flowers. To keep myself busy, once they got to be about a foot tall, I started giving them some liquid fertilizer. I did this once a month. Also, I made sure they got about an inch of water every week. I used a big watering can and tried to get the water right at the bottom where the roots are.

After a couple of months, boom, the first flowers started to pop up. It was pretty awesome seeing them bloom. Each flower only lasted for like a day or two, but there were so many buds that it just kept going, flowering for weeks. They got super big, just like dinner plates, no kidding!

What I learned

It took a bit of patience, to be honest. But seeing those huge flowers in my garden was worth it. I think next year, I’ll plant even more. If you’re thinking about trying it, just go for it. It’s a fun project, and you get these amazing flowers at the end.
