Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout this here… uh… whatchamacallit… “The Last Dinner Party” thingy they got goin’ on in Kansas City. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like somethin’ them city folk do.
So, this “Last Dinner Party” ain’t no potluck at the church, mind you. It’s some kinda… band. Yeah, a whole group of young’uns makin’ noise. They call it “indie rock” music. Don’t ask me what that means, sounds like a bunch of rocks clangin’ together to me. But hey, the young folks seem to like it.
Anyways, they’re playin’ at this place called “The Truman” in Kansas City. Sounds big and important. Heard it’s on July 31st. That’s a Wednesday, right in the middle of the week. Don’t know why they gotta have it then, folks gotta work and all.
Now, I ain’t never been to one of these “concerts” before, but from what I hear, it’s a whole lotta loud music and lights. They say these kids got “toe-tappin’ hits” and put on a “spectacular live show.” Guess that means they jump around and sing real loud. Probably got them fancy lightin’ too, the kind that makes your eyes hurt. My old eyes ain’t used to all that flashin’.
Heard tell you gotta buy tickets to get in. Tickets! For what? To listen to some music? Back in my day, music was free. You sang on the porch, you whistled while you worked. Didn’t need no fancy tickets. But I guess that’s how things are done now. Gotta pay for everything, even a little bit of noise.
And let me tell you, these tickets ain’t cheap neither. Folks are sellin’ ’em, buyin’ ’em, tradin’ ’em like they’re gold. Heard somethin’ about somethin’ called “AEG Presents” bein’ involved. Big shots, I reckon. They’re the ones puttin’ on the show, makin’ sure everyone pays up.
Now, this band… “The Last Dinner Party”… they’re from across the pond, I hear. England, or some such place. Got a bunch of gals in it, singin’ and playin’ guitars and such. Heard they got a girl playin’ a “mandolin.” What in tarnation is a mandolin? Sounds like somethin’ you’d use to slice vegetables. And another one playin’ a flute. A flute! Like somethin’ out of a fairy tale.
- They got a singer named Abigail, I think.
- Another one named Lizzie, plays guitar too.
- Then there’s Emily, she’s the one with that mandolin thing and a flute.
- Georgia plays somethin’ called a bass, sounds low and rumbly.
- And Aurora, she plays the keys, like a piano but smaller, I guess. And she sings too.
They play for a whole hour, can you believe it? Singin’ and strummin’ for a whole hour. My throat would be drier than a bone after all that singin’. They even do one of them “cover songs,” singin’ someone else’s tune. Guess they run outta their own songs after a while.
Heard there was some trouble at one of their shows. Somethin’ about the security bein’ too strict, not lettin’ men in or somethin’. Folks were upset, and rightly so. Can’t be treatin’ folks different just ’cause of how they look. Hope they don’t pull that stunt in Kansas City. Folks around here ain’t gonna stand for that kind of nonsense.
So, if you’re in Kansas City on July 31st and you like that loud music, you might wanna check out this “Last Dinner Party” thing. Me? I’ll be at home, watchin’ my stories and sippin’ on some sweet tea. That’s my kind of party. But hey, to each their own, right? Just don’t forget your earplugs, you might need ‘em!
And if you do go, be sure to tell me all about it. I’m curious to hear what all the fuss is about, even if I don’t understand it myself.
