Alright, let’s talk about this Irish autoimmune diet recipes thing, or whatever they call it. My old bones ain’t got time for fancy names, so we’ll just call it eatin’ good to feel good, ya hear?
Now, I ain’t no doctor, but I know a thing or two about food. Back in my day, we ate what we grew, and we didn’t have all these fancy diseases. But times change, I guess. So, they say some folks gotta be real careful about what they put in their bellies, somethin’ about their bodies fightin’ themselves. Sounds like a whole lotta trouble to me.
What to eat, what not to eat…it’s a whole mess! They say you gotta stay away from all that processed junk, the stuff in boxes and cans. Makes sense, I always say real food is the best food. And no booze, neither! Not that I ever drank much, mind you, but some folks like their tipple.
- No grains: That means no wheat, no corn, no rice. Hard for some folks, I reckon, but we used to eat more potatoes and veggies anyway.
- No beans: No peas, no lentils, none of that. My grandma used to say beans give ya gas, maybe that’s why.
- No dairy: No milk, no cheese, no nothin’ from a cow. Now that’s a tough one for some, but you can get used to it. We used to make our own almond milk sometimes, back in the day.
- No eggs: I heard some folks react bad to eggs. Seems a shame, a good egg is mighty tasty, but if it makes you sick, best to leave it be.
- No nightshade vegetables: They say tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant aren’t good for you either. Well, I grew up on them so they can’t be too bad but I will listen to the experts I guess.
But don’t you go thinkin’ there ain’t nothin’ left to eat! There’s plenty of good stuff you can have. Think about it, all them fresh fruits and veggies. Apples, oranges, bananas, all that good stuff. And sweet potatoes! We used to grow them big as your head.
Cucumbers and spinach are good too. Zucchini, that’s another one. Just plain, good food, ya know? Nothing fancy, nothing you can’t grow in your own garden if you got the space. And if you don’t, well, the market ain’t so bad these days.
They got all these recipes online, they say. I ain’t got no computer, but my grandbaby shows me sometimes. Soups and stews, mostly. That’s good eatin’, keeps ya warm in the winter. And you can put all sorts of good veggies in there. Just gotta make sure you ain’t usin’ nothin’ you ain’t supposed to.
Now, I heard tell some folks can start eatin’ some of that stuff they had to give up later on, but you gotta be real careful. Start slow, see how your body reacts. It’s like trainin’ a young horse, gotta be gentle and patient. You rush it, you’ll just end up in a ditch.
This whole thing, it’s about listenin’ to your body. It ain’t about some fancy diet, it’s about figuring out what makes you feel good and what makes you feel bad. And that’s different for everyone, I reckon. Just like some folks like the sunshine and some folks like the shade.
So, if you’re one of them folks who gotta be careful about what you eat, don’t you go gettin’ discouraged. There’s plenty of good food out there, you just gotta find it. And don’t be afraid to try new things. You might surprise yourself. Maybe you’ll even find you like eatin’ this way better than the old way. You never know ’til you try, that’s what I always say.
And remember, eatin’ good is just one part of stayin’ healthy. You gotta get some fresh air, move your body a little, and keep your mind sharp. That’s the real secret to a long and happy life, if you ask me.
And one more thing, don’t go believin’ everything you read on the internet. Use your common sense. If somethin’ sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Just stick to the basics, and you’ll be alright.
Now, I gotta go make myself some supper. Got some nice sweet potatoes and a bit of spinach. Nothin’ fancy, but it’ll fill my belly and keep me goin’. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it?
