Fish Cookies: How to Make Them and Wow Your Friends

Okay, so I really wanted to make these fish cookies. I had this idea in my head for a while, and I just had to get it out. I started by gathering all the stuff I needed: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, the usual baking things. Oh, and I got some food coloring because I wanted to make the fish all colorful and fun.

Mixing and Shaping

First, I mixed all the dry ingredients together. You know, the flour, a bit of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Then, in another bowl, I creamed the butter and sugar until it was light and fluffy. I cracked in the eggs one by one, mixing well after each. After that, I gradually added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until it all came together into a nice dough. This part is always fun, getting your hands in there and feeling the dough come together.

  • Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

I divided the dough into a few parts because I wanted different colored fish. I added a few drops of food coloring to each part and kneaded it in until the color was evenly mixed. Then came the fun part – shaping the fish! I rolled out each colored dough and used a knife to cut out fish shapes. I made sure to cut out some circles too.I took some dough and twisted the edges, I even used a fork to make some scales on them. They looked pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

Baking Time

I preheated the oven, I think it was around 350 degrees. While it was heating up, I lined a baking sheet with parchment paper. I carefully placed my fish cookies on the sheet, making sure they had some space between them. Then, into the oven they went. I baked them for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges were just starting to turn golden brown. You gotta keep an eye on them because they can burn quickly.

Cooling and Shipping

Once they were done, I took them out of the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. And to ship them to my sister who lives far away. I lined a tin with some foam, put a cookie in, added another foam sheet, and kept going until the tin was full, ending with foam. Then I sealed it all up with tape and packed it in a box with extra padding. Fingers crossed they make it to her in one piece!

In the end, they turned out pretty good! They were colorful, tasty, and definitely looked like fish. It was a fun little baking project, and I think I’ll try it again sometime. Maybe next time I’ll try making different sea creatures. Hope they make it to my sister in one piece!
