Groomers and Alcohol: Cleaning Tools or Drinking on the Job?

Well, I’ll tell ya, this whole groomin’ thing and the drinkin’, it’s a bit of a puzzle, ain’t it? Folks talkin’ ’bout groomers usin’ alcohol, and it gets me thinkin’. What in the world are they doin’ with it?

First off, I heard some of them groomers use that alcohol stuff for cleanin’, you know? Like, for their tools and such. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta keep them clippers and scissors clean, otherwise, who knows what kind of nasty stuff you’d be spreadin’ around. Them animals, they got all sorts of things in their fur, you see. So, yeah, cleanin’ the tools, that’s a good thing.

Then there’s the talk about usin’ it to get rid of them pesky critters. You know, the fleas and ticks and whatnot. I reckon that alcohol stuff, it probably stings somethin’ fierce, but it might just do the trick on them little buggers. Not sure I’d wanna put it on my dog though, seems a bit harsh. But I ain’t no groomer, so what do I know?

Now, here’s where it gets a bit tricky. Some folks, they start whisperin’ about groomers drinkin’ the alcohol themselves. While they’re workin’! Can you believe it? I mean, I ain’t one to judge, but that don’t seem right, does it? You got sharp objects and nervous animals, and you’re gonna be tippin’ back the bottle? That’s a recipe for disaster if I ever heard one.

  • One fella told me he worked at a groomers, and seems some folks were indeed indulging in some alcohol while working. That just don’t sit right with me, I tell ya.
  • I heard of somethin’ called “hair of the dog” it is supposed to help after a night of drinking, now I have heard it all. I would not want a dog hair in any of my drinks, I tell you that.
  • Now I have heard of bills being discussed to allow hairdressing businesses to serve drinks. Is that for the humans or are they sharing the bottle with dogs?

And then there’s the other kinda groomin’ they talk about. The “adult” kind. That’s a whole different can of worms, and it ain’t got nothin’ to do with dogs and cats, I’ll tell you that much. It’s a scary thing, and folks need to be careful, real careful, about who they trust. But that is a whole other story, for another day.

But let’s get back to the dog groomin’ and the drinkin’. I got to thinkin’, maybe some folks get confused, ya know? Like, they hear about the alcohol for cleanin’ and they think it’s okay to drink it too? Or maybe they just got a problem, and they need some help. It ain’t for me to say, but it worries me, it surely does.

And here’s a serious thing to keep in mind: That rubbing alcohol stuff, it ain’t good for animals to swallow, not one bit. If a dog gets a hold of it, they can get real sick, vomitin’ and wobblin’ around. In bad cases, they can even pass out or have seizures. So, you gotta be careful with that stuff, keep it locked up tight where the critters can’t get to it.

And even on the skin, it ain’t good. Don’t go pourin’ that stuff on your dog’s skin, thinkin’ you’re doin’ somethin’ good. You might just make things worse. They sell special stuff for cleanin’ animals, you should use that instead.

Now, I heard they got different kinds of that alcohol stuff, some stronger than others. The strong stuff, it might kill germs better, but the weaker stuff, it’s actually better for disinfectin’ ‘cause it lasts longer. Go figure. But either way, you gotta be careful with it, and you definitely shouldn’t be drinkin’ it while you’re workin’ on someone’s pet.

So, to sum it all up, groomers usin’ alcohol? Yeah, for cleanin’ and maybe for killin’ bugs. But drinkin’ it while groomin’? That just ain’t right. And that rubbing alcohol, keep it away from the animals, it’ll hurt ’em bad. There’s a right way and a wrong way to do things, and drinkin’ while you’re workin’ with animals, well, that’s just plain wrong.
