Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about this Thanksgiving dinner thing, you know, the one with the turkey and all that fixin’s. I heard some folks callin’ it market basket Thanksgiving dinner, sounds fancy, but it’s just food, plain and simple.
First off, gotta get yourself a bird, a big ol’ turkey. Don’t matter where you get it, just make sure it’s a good one. Not too skinny, not too fat, just right. You know, like a good hen, plump and ready to go. And speaking of ready to go, if you ain’t got the time or the energy to cook the whole dang thing yourself, some places, they sell you the whole meal, cooked and everything. Heard tell it’s about seven bucks or so, not a bad deal if you’re feelin’ lazy.
Now, about them side dishes. Mashed potatoes, gotta have ’em. Get yourself some potatoes, boil ‘em ‘til they’re soft, then mash ‘em up with some butter and milk. Don’t skimp on the butter, that’s what makes ’em good. And gravy, gotta have gravy. Use the turkey drippings, that’s the best stuff. Thicken it up with some flour, and you got yourself some good gravy.
- Mashed Potatoes: Gotta have ’em creamy and buttery. Don’t be shy with the butter, ya hear?
- Gravy: Use the turkey juice, that’s the secret. Thicken it up good.
- Stuffing: Bread, onions, celery, whatever you like. Just make sure it’s moist.
- Cranberry Sauce: Some folks like it outta the can, some folks make it from scratch. Your choice.
- Sweet Potatoes: Candied or mashed, doesn’t matter. Just make ‘em sweet.
And don’t forget the sweet potatoes. Some folks like ’em candied, with all that sugar and marshmallows. Me? I like ’em mashed, just like the regular potatoes, but with a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. Makes ‘em real tasty.
Then there’s the cranberry sauce. You can buy that stuff in a can, but it ain’t as good as the homemade stuff. Get yourself some cranberries, boil ’em up with some sugar and water, and you got yourself some real cranberry sauce. It’s tart and sweet, just the way it should be.
Stuffing, that’s another important one. Some folks put all kinds of fancy stuff in their stuffing, but I keep it simple. Bread, onions, celery, maybe some sausage if I’m feelin’ fancy. Just make sure it’s moist, nobody wants dry stuffing. And don’t forget drinks, some like that fizzy apple juice stuff some call it sparkling cider. Tastes alright, I guess.
Now, I heard some folks sayin’ that this year’s Thanksgiving dinner is gonna be a little cheaper than last year. Well, that’s good news, ain’t it? Everything’s so expensive these days, it’s nice to catch a break every now and then. Guess it depends on where you live, too. Some places, things are always cheaper, some places, things are always more expensive. That’s just the way it is.
But no matter how much it costs, Thanksgiving dinner is worth it. It’s a time to get together with your family and friends, to eat good food, and to be thankful for what you got. And that’s what really matters, ain’t it? So, go on, get yourself a turkey, get yourself some fixin’s, and have yourself a good ol’ Thanksgiving dinner. You deserve it. And don’t forget to say grace, thank the good Lord for all the blessings He’s given you. That’s the most important part, ya know.
Market Basket or whatever fancy name they give it, food is food and family is family. That’s all that matters at the end of the day.
