Oval Dinner Plates: How to Choose the Perfect Set for Your Dining Table?
Okay, so I’ve been on this whole home improvement kick lately, you know, trying to make my place look a bit more…adult. And one thing that’s been bugging me forever is my mismatched, chipped plates. Time for an upgrade, right? I decided to go for something a little different – oval dinner plates.
First, I hit up a bunch of stores, just browsing, getting a feel for what’s out there. Lots of round plates, obviously, but the oval ones were kinda hard to find, surprisingly. I looked at different materials, too. They’ve got your standard ceramic, some fancy bone china stuff, even glass.
- Porcelain seemed like a good bet – not too pricey, looked decent, and I figured it would hold up to my, uh, sometimes clumsy dishwashing.

- Stoneware was another option, a bit heavier, more rustic. Not really my vibe.

I spent a good chunk of time just looking at colors and patterns. I mean, it’s gotta match the rest of my kitchen, right? Which, to be honest, is a bit of a mishmash, but mostly neutral tones. Ended up finding a few sets that caught my eye – a plain white one, a light gray, and one with this subtle blue pattern around the edge.
After like, way too much deliberation, I went with the plain white ones. Figured they’d go with anything, and I can always jazz things up with colorful napkins or placemats.
The plain white really makes the colors of the food pop, and they just feel a little fancier than my old round ones. They make even my lame attempts at cooking look kinda gourmet. It’s been a simple change, but it’s totally elevated my dinner game, even if it’s just me eating takeout most nights.
These plates feel sturdy, and so far, they’ve survived my dishwashing. And the best part? They weren’t even that expensive! So yeah, if you’re looking to upgrade your dinnerware, I definitely recommend checking out some oval dinner plates. They’re a small change, but they can make a big difference in how you feel about your meals.
