Okay, so today I decided to make peanut patties. Sounds simple enough, right? First, I gathered all my ingredients. I had peanuts, of course, some sugar, corn syrup, and I think that’s it. I also grabbed some red food coloring because I wanted them to look like those classic ones you see in the stores.
I started by throwing the peanuts into my food processor. I also added some scallions, just like the guy on internet said, don’t know why. The recipe said something about cumin, too, so I tossed that in. I gave it all a good whirl until it was all mashed up. This part was pretty easy, just like making a smoothie or something.
Next, I dumped the sugar and corn syrup into a saucepan. I put it over medium-low heat, just like my grandma used to do with her candies. I kept stirring it, making sure it didn’t burn or stick to the bottom. The recipe mentioned something about the “soft crack stage” and not making it brittle. Honestly, I just stirred it continuously until it looked right.
Then came the fun part. I mixed the mashed peanut mixture into the sugary syrup. I added a few drops of that red food coloring while stirring. It started to look like those pinkish-red patties, which was pretty cool. I stirred and stirred, hoping it wouldn’t turn into a crystal mess.

Once it was all mixed, I dropped spoonfuls of the mixture onto some wax paper. I let them cool down and harden. It didn’t take too long, maybe a few minutes. I tried one, and it was actually pretty good! Sweet, a bit chewy, and definitely peanutty.

I made a whole bunch of these patties. They were way better than those ones you buy at the gas station. My friends came over later, and they devoured them. I even dipped some in sweet chilly sauce and told them they won’t last 5 minutes. All in all, not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
I guess you could say these peanut patties were a hit. And the best part? I now know how to make them myself!
