What Are Old Bay Fries? Your Guide to This Tasty Snack!

Okay, so today I wanted to try making something called “Old Bay Fries”. I’d heard about them here and there, and they sounded pretty good. So I went for it. I mean they are basically just some fried potatoes, right?

First off, I grabbed some potatoes from my kitchen. I think they were just regular russet potatoes. Then I washed them real good and started chopping them up into wedges, you know, like steak fries. I left the skin on because I like them that way.

Next, I heated up some oil in my deep fryer. While that was getting hot, I tossed the potato wedges in a bowl with a little bit of olive oil, just enough to coat them. I did not use too much oil since I used deep fryer.

And now it is the key part. Once the oil was hot enough, I carefully dropped the potato wedges into the fryer, a few at a time so they wouldn’t stick together. I let them cook for a few minutes until they were golden brown and crispy. Oh man, they smelled amazing already.

  • Washed and cut potatoes
  • Heated oil in a deep fryer
  • Tossed potato wedges with olive oil
  • Fried in hot oil until golden brown

Then came the fun part – the seasoning! I pulled the fries out of the fryer and put them in a big bowl. I’d heard that this stuff called “Old Bay” seasoning was the way to go, so I sprinkled a generous amount all over the hot fries. I also saw that some folks liked it with something called “OLD BAY Malt Vinegar Seasoning”, and I happened to have it. So I also sprinkled it over. I tossed them around to make sure they were all coated evenly.

Making the Dipping Sauce

I also whipped up a quick dipping sauce while the fries were cooking. Just some mayo, a little bit of ketchup, a dash of hot sauce, and a pinch of that Old Bay seasoning mixed together. Nothing fancy, but it did the trick. You know those creamy sauce sold in the Mcdonald, it tastes like that. I also tried this creamy sauce for the hot fries. So good!

When the fries were all seasoned up, I plated them up and dug in. And let me tell you, they were delicious! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and that Old Bay seasoning gave them a nice little kick. The dipping sauce was the perfect complement, too. My families also liked them very much since we all love potatoes.

All in all, I’d say my attempt at making Old Bay Fries was a success! It was a pretty easy recipe, and the results were definitely worth it. I’ll for sure be making these again sometime soon. Maybe next time I’ll try baking them instead of frying, just to see how they turn out.
